How to use Markdown File Editor
Run saves the current edited buffer. Load a .md, .markdown, or .txt file or paste Markdown, edit it, and download a new .md copy without re-reading the selected file's old contents.
Headings, lists, links, and code fences are handled as source text. This is not automatic Markdown repair, HTML rendering, or autosave to the original; review output in the intended viewer separately.
- Select a file and wait for loading to finish, or paste source text into Markdown content.
- Edit headings, sentences, or links in the content field. Changes made after loading stay in the current buffer.
- Run and compare the result with the edited content. Running does not reload the selected file or revert edits.
- Download mdfileeditor.md, reopen it in a text editor or Markdown viewer, and rename the copy if needed.
Useful for
- Revise a README copy without overwriting the original.
- Confirm that the last sentence edited after file loading appears in the download.
- Draft short meeting notes or release notes as source text and review rendering in another viewer.
Limits and checks
- Automatic file loading is limited to 2 MiB and the editor to 2,000,000 characters. Bytes and character count are different limits; split large documents.
- There is no autosave or direct modification of the original file. Download needed edits before refreshing, resetting, or choosing another file.
- Only UTF-8 Markdown text is exported. Images and relative-link targets are not bundled, so check required assets and paths when moving the document.
Worked example
Edit after importing
Loaded text: # Notes Before Current edited buffer: # Notes After
Replace Before with After, then run without reloading.
Download the edited buffer
Download: mdfileeditor.md File contents: # Notes After
After must be present and Before absent. The # remains part of the Markdown source.
Common issues
The saved text differs from the file originally selected.
The current Markdown content field is the save target. That difference is expected after editing; reload an original copy only if you need to restore its contents.
Typing during loading prevented the file contents from appearing.
A late read can be ignored to protect newer user edits. Save your draft, reselect the file, and wait for loading before editing.
How to interpret the result
Compare the output with the content field, including the last sentence changed.

Privacy and review notes
The editor operates on current local text. It is not a backup service: download changes before leaving and check for private information before sharing.
FAQ
Does Run revert edits made after loading a file?
No. It returns the current content-field string. File selection imports the initial draft and does not cancel subsequent edits when you run.
Is there preview, autosave, or image bundling?
This tool provides source editing and .md download only. It does not render HTML, autosave the original, or package linked images; review those separately.
